Why You’re Falling Off the Wall (And How to Fix It)
What do you do when you loose balance while climbing?
Alright, time for the next hold.
Just need to shift my feet a bit…
Wait—NO NO NO, I’m faaaaalling!
Phew, thank god those handholds were decent!
Last week, I chatted with Isa, a powerhouse 40+ climber.
We broke down her body positioning on vertical routes.
I found that: When she was forced to use bad foothold,
all of her balance was GONE
yet she still powered through
to the next hold…
What do you do when you lose balance while climbing?
You try to make up for it with finger, arm, or core strength
Sure - it works (sometimes)…
But it’s like silver-taping a hole in the roof
Eventually, you’ll face a route where pure strength won’t cut it.
That’s when proper positioning and leg power save the day.
Try this simple exercise
Feel like you’re about to fall?
Let yourself fall. (Yup, really)
Then hop back on, but this time-
Rework your foot positioning until the move feels easy
As promised, value in under 60 seconds.
Fingers crossed for you,
Aleks
